Recipe: Homemade Fruit Popsicles for Babies

Why It’s Great for BLW:
These fruit popsicles are soft and easy for little hands to grab. They are a great way for babies to explore new flavors and textures. Plus, the cold temperature can help soothe sore gums during teething. The best part? They’re made with fresh, natural ingredients, so you can feel confident about what your baby is eating.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen fruit (such as strawberries, mangoes, blueberries, or peaches)
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt (optional for creaminess)
  • 1/4 cup water or coconut water (for a smoother texture)
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional, only for babies over 1 year old)
  • A small pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

Prepare the Fruit:
If you’re using fresh fruit, wash and chop it into small pieces. If you’re using frozen fruit, allow it to thaw for a few minutes to make blending easier.

Blend the Ingredients:
Add the fruit, yogurt (if using), and water (or coconut water) into a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. You can also add a small pinch of cinnamon or vanilla extract for extra flavor. If you want the popsicles to be sweeter, you can add a teaspoon of honey, but remember, honey is only safe for babies over 1 year old.

Pour into Molds:
Pour the fruit mixture into popsicle molds. If you don’t have popsicle molds, you can use ice cube trays or small plastic cups. If using an ice cube tray, insert a small stick into each cube to create mini popsicles.

Freeze:
Place the molds in the freezer and freeze for 4-6 hours or until completely solid. You can freeze them overnight for the best results.

Serve:
Once the popsicles are fully frozen, remove them from the molds. Run warm water over the outside of the molds for a few seconds if they’re hard to release. Serve the popsicles immediately, or store them in a sealed container in the freezer for later.

Serving Tip:
These fruit popsicles are great on their own or paired with a healthy side like avocado slices or soft scrambled eggs. They make a great snack for babies and toddlers, especially during warm weather or after a teething session.
